New York CNN —Mark Thompson, on his 100th day as CNN’s new leader, sent his 4,000-person strong workforce a 2,300-word memo that said both a lot and very little at the same time. Thompson began his manifesto by referencing how CNN’s founder, Ted Turner, revolutionized the news by introducing a 24/7 live-feed on cable television. That group, colloquially known internally as “The Quad,” is comprised of Virginia Moseley, executive vice president of editorial; Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent; Eric Sherling, executive vice president of programming; and David Leavy, chief operating officer. Mike McCarthy, who has for years led CNN International, will become managing editor of CNN, reporting to Moseley, Thompson said. “Change is essential if we’re to secure this great news company’s future,” Thompson wrote.

As if things weren't rocky enough for CNN Worldwide CEO Chris Licht, a new report from The Wall Street Journal revealed top on-air talent voiced concerns about the CEO to incoming COO David Leavy. The Journal, citing anonymous sources close to the matter, reported that Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper, and Erin Burnett have all criticized Licht. The Journal reported that Licht is seen as more aloof and walled off from the newsroom, which contrasts with the style of his predecessor Jeff Zucker, who was often in the scrum.

CNN CEO Chris Licht has been hit with a torrent of criticism since a profile of him dropped Friday. CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy wrote that Licht had "lost the room." This time, it's coming from inside the house, as CNN media reporter delivered a brutal assessment of Licht in Monday night's Reliable Sources newsletter. "In the wake of The Atlantic's explosive story, I've spoken with dozens of staffers across the company," Darcy wrote. In fairness to Licht, Darcy also reported that the "somber" remarks the CEO delivered on Monday had "struck the right tone."
